Indiana Rep. Mark Souder to Resign Amid Alleged Affair with Staffer

Eight-term Indiana Rep. Mark Souder was announcing his resignation Tuesday after admitting an affair with a female aide, who worked in his district office.

Souder, a Republican, will step on Friday. He said in remarks obtained by Fox News that he “sinned against God, my wife and my family by a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff.”

“I wish I could have been a better example,” he was saying. “In this environment of toxic Washington, DC, no personal failing is addressed, often twisted for political purposes. I’m resignation rather than to my family, which set by painful, tedious process. … We are a dedicated family but the error is mine, and I should bear the responsibility. I am not only grateful for a loving family, but for a loving God. ”

Several senior House sources indicated that the extent of the Souder affair with the employee he would be landed before the House ethics committee.
